Dominica is a parliamentary democracy. The government of works to respect the rights of its citizens and has a good human rights record. The only major complaints reported by the United Nations Commission on Human Rights are poor prison conditions and discrimination and poor living conditions faced by the indigenous Carib Indians. The government is slowly addressing these issues.
