Overview of Human Rights in Mauritius

The Republic of Mauritius is a parliamentary democracy. The government works to respect the civil and human rights of its citizens. However, there were a few human rights violations reported recently. Police brutality and prison overcrowding are continuing areas of concern. Child abuse, child prostitution, and child labor have also been reported. That said, the country has a generally positive human rights record in the context of the wider international community.
