Amina was born in Tunisia and lived there until she was 12, when she moved to Paris. There she learned singing from her musical mother and at the Paris Conservatory. From early on she was interested in a wide range of musical styles, from traditional African music to Billie Holiday and James Brown. She burst onto the music scene in1989 and has since gone on to international fame. She is known for recording and performing with other performers from throughout Africa, Europe, and Asia.
