After the human tragedy and destruction of natural resources that took place during its years under military rule, Uganda began to rebuild. Ndyakira was able to use the nation’s newly freed press to draw attention to the need to protect the environment. His stories covered everything from deforestation to illegal mining and wildlife smuggling. He also wrote environmental books for young people. His actions helped bring about the declaration of a national forest, and he was recognized internationally for his efforts.
