Kidjo was a popular local performer in Benin before recording her first album in Paris in 1980. She has since become one of the top artists in the world music industry—she's been nominated for three Grammy Awards. Her music incorporates a range of influences, including styles from West Africa, the United States (R&B, jazz, funk), Latin American, and the Caribbean. Kidjo has collaborated with a number of musicians, including Santana, Gilberto Gil, and Dave Matthews.
