Atahualpa |
Passion or Profession: Incan Ruler
Period: 1502–1533
Atahualpa was the last true ruler of the ancient Incan empire. Upon the conquest led by Francisco Pizarro, Atahualpa was captured and held for ransom. Although his subjects paid the huge ransom (a large room full of gold, and two smaller rooms of silver), he was still executed. After his death, puppet rulers were installed in the Incan empire. Some Incans also tried to start another Incan state. In the end, all dissident Incan rulers were executed.
