Hannibal was a military commander in ancient Carthage, which today is located inside Tunisia. He is best known for marching with his army over the Pyrenees and the Alps to battle the Romans. Though he and his armies were eventually defeated and forced to retreat, they did enjoy many successes for a period of about two years. Today Hannibal is still remembered alongside other great military commanders, such as Alexander the Great.
