Passion or Profession: Prime Minister
Period: 1936–2000
A prominent Creole leader, Arron became chairman of the National Party of Suriname (NPS) in 1970. He served as prime minister of Suriname from 1973 until 1980. Under his leadership, Suriname achieved independence from the Netherlands in 1975. Arron was removed from his position by military coup leaders in 1980 but returned as chairman of the cabinet in 1988.
