Lucius Banda's brother Paul formed the Alleluya Band, one of Malawi's first major pop groups, in the 1970s. Paul went on to become a music producer, while Lucius became the lead singer of the Alleluya Band for most of the 1990s. Lucius Banda is considered Malawi's most famous musician, known for his outspoken political lyrics. He was elected to Parliament in 2004 but lost the seat two years later amid allegations he forged a school certificate that allowed him to run for office.
