The son of another famous baseball player, Aparicio was born and raised in Venezuela. He first played professionally in Venezuela but was soon drafted by the Chicago White Sox. During his 18-year career, he would also play for the Baltimore Orioles and the Boston Red Sox. During his career, he earned the record for most games played at shortstop. He also helped revive the practice of stealing bases, stealing more than 50 bases during each of several seasons. He was elected to the baseball Hall of Fame in 1984.
