Yoko was recognized for her beauty and grace and helped teach other women social graces. Perhaps it was her beauty that helped her marry powerful men whose prominence would eventually allow her to gain power herself. After the death of her third husband, she became a minor queen. She expanded her territory through alliances, war, and support from the British. She is seen as an extraordinary example of a powerful woman.
