Born in Ouagadougou, Ilboudo earned a doctorate in law and was appointed law professor at the University of Ouagadougou. Her 1992 novel, Le mal de peau (Aching Skin), received critical acclaim for its portrayal of a mother and daughter in West Africa and France. Ilboudo currently serves as Burkina Faso's minister for the promotion of human rights.
