Pakalitha Mosisili |

Period: 1945–
Mosisili was born in Qacha's Nek. With a background in linguistics and education, he taught at the University of Lesotho and at several South African universities. In 1967, he joined the Basotholand Congress Party (BCP), led by Ntsu Mokhele. Mosisili won a seat in Parliament when Mokhehle became prime minister in 1993 elections. Mosisili then followed Mokhehle when he split with the BCP and created a new ruling party, the Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) in 1997. Mokhele retired ahead of 1998 elections, in which Mosisili won the prime ministership. Mosisili was reelected in 2002.
