Perhaps the most successful capitalist in Bolivia, Simón Ituri Patiño built a financial empire mining tin and investing internationally. He became one of the wealthiest people in the world during his lifetime. After the 1952 revolution, all of Patiño's holdings were seized, giving great financial power to the new government.
