Tamar |
Passion or Profession: Queen
Period: 1169–1213
Queen Tamar ruled the Kingdom of Georgia from 1184 until 1213. The granddaughter of King David the Builder (who ruled from 1089 to 1125), Tamar saw Georgia reach its greatest size, covering most of the Caucasus region, and include a population of 12 million. Tamar’s reign is considered a golden age of Georgian culture, when architecture, literature, frescoes, gold work, and other art forms flourished.
