Hanuman is the embodiment of the HINDU IDEAL of Perfect Service, Wisdom, Speed and Strength. He was born of a Monkey Queen ANJANA and the Wind-God VAAYU. Anjana was a APSARA transformed into a Monkey under a Curse. Hence the name ANJANEYA was given to Him.

As soon as Hanuman was born, He leapt at the SUN under the mistaken impression that Sun was a fruit. He wanted to satisfy His hunger. The Lord of the Heavens, INDRA, got enraged and struck Hanuman with His weapon ‘VAJRAYUDHA’ (Thunderbolt). Hanuman fell down. This enraged His father VAAYU. And Vaayu stopped blowing causing great discomfort to all the Living Beings. INDRA then had to humbly offer His apologies to Vaayu for His act. Indra then granted the BOON of GREAT STRENGTH and IMMORTALITY to HANUMAN.

Hanuman is a great Hero in the epic RAMAYANA. He along with others of the VAANAAA SENA (Army of Monkeys) helped Lord RAMA in many ways in tracing SITA and vanquishing RAVANA - the abductor of SITAMAATHA. Hanuman killed many RAAKSHASA Warriors and helped in restoring Life to Lakshmana by flying to HIMALAYAS to fetch SANJIVINI.
