Chvorost (Rum Cookies)


  1. 2 1/2 cups flour
  2. 1 cup milk
  3. 2 eggs
  4. 1/2 cup sugar
  5. 1 tablespoon rum
  6. Salt to taste
  7. Oil for frying



  1. Mix well flour, milk, eggs, sugar, rum, and salt. Knead dough well and then roll out very thinly and cut into strips that are about 8 to 10 centimeters long.
  2. Make the dough into different shapes: knots or plaits, for example. Or make a little cut in the center lengthwise and pass one end through this cut several times.
  3. Heat enough oil in a pan to cover dough. Plunge dough pieces in the oil, adding about 5 to 6 pieces at a time. Fry until light brown.
  4. Serve with sugar or jam for tea.
