  1. 1 cup red lentils
  2. 1 medium onion, chopped
  3. 1 teaspoon garlic, crushed
  4. 1 teaspoon ginger, crushed
  5. 1 teaspoon baking powder
  6. 1 teaspoon olive or sunflower oil
  7. 2 or 3 tablespoons flour
  8. A number of small green chilies, depending on the preferred spiciness
  9. Oil for frying 


  1. Place the lentils in a bowl of water and soak overnight.
  2. Wash the lentils and drain and blend them slightly. Place the lentils in a bowl with all the ingredients and mix well.
  3. Drop spoonfuls of the mixture into hot oil and deep fry for a few minutes until brown.
  4. Drain on paper towels and serve.
